Explanation of the New Pass-Thru Deduction with Examples -Recorded 2/20/18
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act added Sec. 199A to the tax code in order to provide a deduction for owners of certain pass-through businesses. This new deduction, while potentially valuable to business owners, is complicated and has many nuances built into it. In this class, we will review Sec. 199A in detail with examples of its application to the business owner, along with the tax planning implications of this new deduction.
The learning objectives for this webinar include:
Explain the key provisions of Section 199A of the Internal Revenue Code.
Identify the limitations to the Section 199A deduction and to whom they apply.
Compute the Section 199A deduction for business owners using real-life examples, including for business owners in the phase-out income range.
Understand how Section 199A impacts other tax planning choices like asset expensing and choice of entity.
