Tax professionals are often asked to assist taxpayers with deciding which entity structure would be most appropriate for their businesses. While the consideration and conversation often focus on the tax ramifications of the selection, there are other factors which must be considered. Prior to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, the conversation between a tax professional and client when making a decision about entity structure largely revolved around whether there was a need for legal liability protection and tax savings. Throughout this course we will analyze the advantages, disadvantages, tax reporting and other considerations among the available options. Instruction also includes several examples of the tax results for each entity option for various scenarios changing only one factor at a time in order to easily see the effects of each choice.

About the instructor
Geri Bowman, CPA EA USTCP, holds a BS, Accounting degree from University of Akron. Her tax and accounting firm in Mogadore, Ohio focuses on serving the small business market. She is a certified public accountant with more than 20 years’ experience, an enrolled agent, and was admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court in 2013. She is a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute and served as the NTPI Planning committee chair for several years. Since 2014 Geri has served as an instructor for a USTCP prep study course where she has assisted several others realize their goal of becoming admitted to practice before the Tax Court. She has taught for the National Tax Practice Institute and various NAEA state and local affiliates. Geri was presented with the 2015 President’s Award in recognition for her efforts with the education programs offered by NAEA, and she received the NAEA Excellence in Education award in 2016.
